We all have our own roles when it comes to different aspects of our lives. At school, we play the role of students. At work, we have a different role based on our position in the company. Many people take for granted their roles in their work. A lot of people do not see the importance of some positions when, in reality, they play major roles in the business’ processes and success. The companies should know which employees to prioritise when it comes to decision making aspects. A very concrete example of this is the designer of the company.
Leslie Bradshaw is one of the most well-known people in the realm of business. She has been given a lot of names because of her various accomplishments. She is currently the COO, President and CoFounder of JESS3 which is a data visualization or creative agency. Within the company, she has been labeled as the “operational energy” because she played a very vital role in its tremendous growth and international success. She was even hailed as a Top Woman in Tech Under 30 by the Wall Street Journal. In addition, she was also referred to as the “Brains” that drives the company forward. She gave out four short, but very important tips, on what startup needs to know about the company design, as well as the designers.
First, she said that the designer needs to be employee number 2, not 10. It is very evident that the designer must always be part of any discussions involving the early strategies of the company. This is because the design would always be part of the initial steps to consider when making a startup. In addition, adding some things later after you have done the plans would not really work that well.
Second, choose the right person or team for the job. Make sure that the designer/s would be able to work with the other members of your company well. Furthermore, make sure to have faith in them. Make them feel appreciated and show them how important they are to the company. Motivate them properly so that they would be inspired to work.
Third, don’t be scared to hire people outside the country. Look for the best person for the job, not the best that you can find near you.
Fourth, make sure that you would be able to create a culture that is governed by excellence, execution and precision.
Lastly, do not negotiate or neglect excellence. Make sure that it is the top priority.
With all these great tips, surely all the companies would be able to focus more on designs and the designers.
